Record-Breaking Growth in American Investment Activity
The CEO of the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), who was a member of the Hungarian government delegation, emphasized that never before have so many American investments been announced as in 2025.
A new phase has begun in Hungarian–American relations, marked by high-level meetings of strategic significance in Washington.
With Hungary receiving full and indefinite exemption related to its energy procurement framework, the Hungarian economy has been guaranteed smooth and affordable operation. In addition, in light of growing geopolitical tensions, Hungary has further diversified its energy supply. As part of a new energy cooperation initiative, the country will be able to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. At the same time, all remaining U.S. sanctions related to the Paks II investment have been lifted.
The United States is currently Hungary’s third-largest investor, with nearly 1,400 American companies operating in the country and contributing significantly to the transformation of the Hungarian economy, noted István Joó.
Between 2014 and the first half of 2025, a total of 145 American investments worth approximately €2.5 billion were decided with the support of HIPA.
The Hungarian–American summit held last week also resulted in extended investment cooperation. According to HIPA’s CEO, space technology, telecommunications, the defense industry, and artificial intelligence are expected to become key areas for future American investments. During his visit, István Joó held forward-looking talks with companies including ABBVIE, GE Healthcare, Radian Space, and Voyager.
This year alone, nine American investments have already been announced, a significant portion of which will bring the latest technologies and create jobs with the highest added value. István Joó added that another U.S. company’s development will be announced this week, and given the advanced stage of negotiations, the list is expected to continue growing, reaching a historic high.
